We previously announced the deployment of our new Frame stateless driver (OFS) to all Frame Accounts. This process is now complete, and we are ready to begin enabling the new driver in a phased approach.

The first Frame Accounts that will begin utilizing the new driver will be any non-persistent accounts using either a Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022 base image (this is applicable across all Early Adopter, Standard, and Trailing deployment groups).

These accounts will be migrated to OFS on Monday, September 2, 2024. By default, only the Sandbox VM for each account will have OFS enabled. Production pool VMs will not be migrated to OFS until a Publish is run. Any new Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022 non-persistent accounts created after September 2, 2024, will automatically utilize OFS.

Frame Console 4.14.0

  • Persistent Desktops can now be assigned by user_uuid.
  • Improved error reporting in scenarios where Frame Terminal fails to load.
  • Additional cosmetic, performance, and reliability improvements.

We are excited to announce the upcoming GA release of our new stateless driver (OFS)! This new driver will be replacing our existing stateless mechanism for non-persistent Windows VMs, bringing enhanced security and performance.

Effective August 15, 2024, we have begun including the new OFS driver with all new Frame Agent releases. The driver will be installed but disabled. Currently, all Frame Accounts in the Early Adopters deployment group (Dashboard > Settings > Deployment Group) have received the new driver. We plan to deploy the driver to all remaining accounts within the next 1-2 weeks. Once the driver is fully deployed, we will then begin enabling the driver in a phased approach (stay tuned for a separate announcement on timing).

    • sga_config source local and sga_config source external to switch to desired configuration source
    • sga_config apply at any time to apply configuration from the selected source
    • sga_config show to display configuration

  • Support for custom Account Maintenance Mode messages.

Frame Terminal 6.25.0

Frame Guest Agent 1.9.2

Added:

  • Windows Update Service is now disabled by default for non-persistent workload VMs. Windows Updates should be run on the Sandbox and then published to production.
  • If a Frame Workload VM fails to register with Frame Platform within eight (8) minutes after provisioning, Frame Guest Agent will enable RDP (Windows) or SSH (Linux), respectively, so admins can connect into the Workload VM to investigate.

Frame Console 3.47.0

Added:

  • New Maintenance Mode when enabled, prevents users from starting new sessions on an Account. Users will see a message in Launchpad indicating that the Account is under maintenance. Administrators are still able to start sessions to Sandbox and Utility Servers when Maintenance Mode is enabled.

  • [AWS][Google Cloud] Improved handling of instance availability issues within AWS and Google Cloud in terms of provisioning, reserving, and starting VMs.

Added:

General

  • Ability for users to automatically enable sound, microphone, and webcam via Preferences.

Frame Console 3.44.0

Added:

  • [Early Access] [GCP] Users can suspend their Persistent Desktop session and resume the session later. When the session is suspended, contents of VM memory are moved to storage and preserved. Suspended VMs do not incur GCP compute costs; however, the storage costs are incurred for storing the VM memory and persistent desktop disk.

Fixed:

General

  • Reverted to CEF version 100.

  • Issue where session performance degradation may occur in certain configurations.

Frame Server 8.5.17.0

Added:

  • Frame will no longer force open applications to close when the Frame session is closed by the user. For Sandbox and Persistent Desktops, this means application state will be preserved from session-to-session unless the VM is rebooted between sessions. Customers can preserve previous behavior by using a post-session script to force apps to close when the Frame session is closed.

Fixed:

  • Issue where attempts to resume an FRP8 session may freeze while “Allocating resources”.

  • Issue where Frame printing may fail on Accounts deployed on private networks due to CORS policy change introduced with Chrome/Chromium version 104.

  • Additional reliability fixes.

Frame Terminal 6.20.0

Added:

Tech Preview Feature to automatically refresh video stream (FRP8 only, does not apply to FRP7) when a specified packet loss rate threshold is exceeded that could result in a frozen session and/or visual artifacting. Feature can be enabled via the Advanced Terminal Argument:

Frame Console 3.40.0

Added:

  • [AHV] Ability to clone Persistent Desktops from one Account to another. Accounts can be deployed on different Cloud Accounts (AHV Clusters).

  • Ability for administrators to select whether times within Frame Console are displayed in UTC or their local time zone. Exception is that times within Analytics will always be shown in UTC and time zones within Capacity will remain configurable. Administrators will be able to configure this setting within Profile > Preferences > Time Display.

Data Availability

note

Nutanix has established a Data Availability Policy for transaction data (Session, Usage, Disk Usage, Elasticity, User Activity, Session Reports, Audit Trail, Session Trail, Tasks, and Notifications) available from the Frame Console.
